Au Revoir Saddam
I don't get the whole brouhaha about Saddam Hussein's verdict and impending execution. I take that back. I don't get the decision behind all these pronouncements that the dude's gonna kick it.
First it was oooh, he's guilty. Then it was wait, uh oh, he's going to appeal. Then it was, yep, he's really guilty. Then: he has to face capital punishment.
And now? The press have been croaking on about this supposed hanging as "within 30 days" to "within this week" to "today or tomorrow"?
Man, if I acted like this at my job with my deadlines, I'd be fired. I suppose they don't operate on specific timetables over there.
And does anyone think it's a good idea to hang a dude at the start of the haj, Islam's pilgrimage season? Way to be a party pooper, guys. [The voice in my head is screaming: propaganda before Bush unveils his grand strategy of how to get out of the clusterfuck known as Iraq in the new year.]
All this nonsense – this theater that is the 'rule of law' in Iraq. Oh yeah, guess what the rule of law upholds? Death by a medieval method. I thought the rule of law was suppose to uphold the brightest ideals of humanity.. but hey, what's good for Texas is good for those camel-jockeys.
