Buy in bulk
My 78 year old mom came to visit, and we dropped by Safeway, today. She loves this store. They don't have Safeways in Texas.
She insisted on buying 3 cases of bottled water (40 bottles each case). I grabbed the closest one I found, but those were $6.99. Take the ones that are $4.99 she directed. She also bought 4 bags on Select multigrain sliced bread. She gets them every time she comes to visit.
I think about her life in Houston, the 3 mile radius that is Vietnam Town, consisting of Bissonett, Beechnut and Bellaire streets. She doesn't drive. Dad never taught her or let her drive. She goes to the same few Asian stores and somehow makes feasts on demand.
"Sure, mom." I said as I packed the items. I'm learning to let her be.
