princess: here's an example of how pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies dictate your care (instead of your doctor).
princess: today, i found out that the makers of flonase (a nasal spray) struck a deal with many of the major insurance companies. they'll sell flonase to the insurance companies in bulk for cheap. if they stop covering their competitor, nasonex.
princess: now, nasonex isn't covered by most of the insurance companies anymore. so even though nasonex is a better product and works better for most patients, insurance companies wont pay for it.
princess: this means that everytime i write for nasonex, i get a call from a pharmacy saying the medication was rejected and its not covered by the patient's insurance. so now i write for flonase all the time instead.
princess: flonase is an inferior product, but has more money. so for the financial gain of both flonase and the insurance companies, the patients get an inferior product to use.
princess: and physician management of patient care is compromised.
