Gap Year
A recent NYTimes article: For Some Graduates, a Fanciful Detour (or Two) before their Careers Begin
Like a growing number of graduates, they are taking time away from school and the vigorous pursuit of a career. Some are looking for new experiences; others want to test potential careers or devote themselves to public service for a while; still others simply want to have a good time after the rigors of high school and college...
Most of these students work after graduation, but not at jobs that they see as part of their long-term careers.
"I tell students there is no rush here," said Linda N. Arra, the director of career services at Lafayette. "Career interests typically don't solidify until about the age of 25. All the research shows that. And yet we are asking students to think about careers pretty early in life."
How about a 26 year old who has done his time in the trenches and now is gonna think of detours as the way to go? Careers huh? That's interesting.. seems like I haven't exactly found a career that's satisfying yet.
