It's interesting – what you get used to on the road. After traveling for a month, I am finally getting used to:
- Sidewalk eateries. I occupy the same airspace as flies taking off and landing, where rats come out from the sewers at night to play, where meat is left out in the open under the midday heat to give it a brownish color and where hordes of other travelers and locals are hungrily slurping down some of the tastiest morsels of food I have ever consumed. I feel odd now if I'm sitting in an air-conditioned space using napkins with my meals!
- Laundry. Whenever more than 50% of my clothes (meaning my two pair of pants, a pair of shorts, and 4 t-shirts) are dirty, I just take them into the shower with me. As I sud up, the lather gets all over the dirty clothes also, and as I rinse I just stomp on them while belting out some Oasis tune ('how many people.. '). When I towel off, I just hang them up to dry. I get clean, and the clothes get clean.
- Division. I can do long division backwards and forwards since I've been duped on the exchange rates too many times.
