Girls and their Men, part deux

Incidentally, did you know that the Thai word farang (for foreigner) came from their pronunciation of the 'French'? Fa-wrench became Fa-ren became Farang.

So YuppieNomad and I were discussing the issue of Thai girls and farangs the other day, and like most cases where I was being contrary, I got put in my place.

Incidentally, did you know that the Thai word farang (for foreigner) came from their pronunciation of the 'French'? Fa-wrench became Fa-ren became Farang. Yeah, I just made that up, but it makes sense. [Update: Wohoo, wikipedia confirms my awesome cognitive abilities!]

So anyways, here goes the conversation:

Me: Oh I dunno - I think women ought to have a stand against the men. Otherwise it it's an issue of victimization... [blah blah blah, absolutes, etc.]
YN: I hear ya, but the men have a choice -- the women in this case have less of a choice because of their economic conditions.
Me: But they still have a choice, don't they? I mean, yeah, Asia is poor, so white men take advantage of that -- but what about Africa? Africa is much poorer, and I don't hear much about bar girls there!
YN: That's because in Africa, they just get raped.
Me: Oh.
YN: ...
Me: Really?
