iPhone
A couple of last points: I wonder how this product will cannibalize the iPod? How will Apple transition from the popular iPods to the iPhone? What synergies can be had from the iPhone and media capabilities of the macBooks?
I was wondering when Apple would get into it. Others have done it (Ericsson, Samsung) but lordy hollabajeebus -- Apple does it well. Music player, video player, photo-album, web-browser, email, text messaging... phone -- the wizkids at apple have managed to combine all those things in a sleek bundle of incredible UI, functionality and design.
Enter the iPhone.
Some selling points:
- No scroll wheel - selection is managed by a touch screen that smartly scrolls through the items by the flick of your fingers.. and then slows down automatically until you flick again
- Smart keys - will recognize misspellings done on touch screen
- Wide-screen, no buttons (except for home, off/on, volume, etc.)
- Wi-fi support, full screen internet browsing with zoom capability through touch-screen
- Design -- awesome interface, graphics, case
I'm sure there are more but I'm too impressed right now...
Some off-putting points:
- Not-upgradeable.. no extra memory
- Incompatibility with other music/video programs
- Phone only available on Cingular network (including wi-fi) -- boo!
- Expensive.. $499 or $699
- Learning curve to use touch-screen.. not sure about life-span
But aside all that? I still want one. Why? Same reason why I want a 5 series BMW instead of a Hyundai. Or Polo Purple Label suit instead of an H&M off the rack. You still get from point A to B, but you do it with so much style and ease.
A couple of last points: I wonder how this product will cannibalize the iPod? How will Apple transition from the popular iPods to the iPhone? What synergies can be had from the iPhone and media capabilities of the macBooks? Will the partnership with Cingular work? How long will it take before mass consumption will bypass the early adopters? How will this affect Microsoft's Zune, Erricsson's cell phones, and other competitors?

=)
I think my relationships with my laptop and iPods have gotten to another level. We all care for each other very much.
