RIP Tom Fox

According to the NY Times, Tom Fox, part of Christian Peacemaker Team, was found with a gunshot wound to the head.  He died in Iraq.  He was in Iraq "investigating allegations that American and Iraqi forces were abusing Iraqi detainees, and was also working for an end to the occupation", according to a spokeswoman.

Consistent with their name, Christian Peacemaker turned the other cheek, proclaiming, "We reject violence to punish anyone. We ask that there be no retaliation."

RIP Tom Fox, who once said:

But if Jesus and Gandhi are right, then I am not to give in to either. I am to stand firm against the kidnapper as I am to stand firm against the soldier. Does that mean I walk into a raging battle to confront the soldiers? Does that mean I walk the streets of Baghdad with a sign saying 'American for the Taking?' No to both counts.
But if Jesus and Gandhi are right, then I am asked to risk my life, and if I lose it, to be as forgiving as they were when murdered by the forces of Satan.

hmmmm...nice quote

Tragic situation. Let's hold Tom Fox, his family, the other hostages and their families in the light of our love and our concern, not for some metaphysical possibility that our prayer will summon a divine intervention, but rather because our loving consciousness of their commitment ennobles it.
