Thirtysomething

The startup ended when Alaric didn’t want to work any more. We could have continued to push features and attracted users, or at the very least, investors.

I pay the bills. I fix the broken things around the house. The portable AC unit for my daughter’s room. The screen door. The kitchen vent.

I haven’t been completely honest with myself, hence my silence. Of course, there are thoughts that I consider worthy – interesting even – to put into words, but my mind is a wasteful and lazy organ.

After a week on the open water, after a terrible storm, after 20 ft waves, after the engine died, after pirates, after the provisions emptied, after deaths, after memories I’ve lost but my parents will hold forever...

My world is filled with listicles, diuretic tweets, shallow microposts, mobile-friendly but insight-unfriendly articles, and an ever increasing avalanche of incendiary and lowest-common-denominator content shared at the top of the Facebook heap.

For us, the metadata can tell the where and when of the photos stories. And we wanted to make it cool! We displayed a satellite map of where the photos were taken. If it was cloudy, we’d show clouds floating by.
