One of my biggest pet peeves is that there are no efficient methods to filter relevant useful information when you are in the Silicon Valley [insert your career space here] echo chamber. Options are: 1) stop listening 2) embrace doubt 3) believe everything, or 4) become a jerkoff self-promoter and yell your ideas louder.
Case in point: Alley Insider likes to write about stuff that’s going on in the tech biz. Blog post from 9:25 am says Yahoo! can’t sell of it’s HotJobs unit by referencing some apparently random guy.
Rule #1: Doesn’t matter who your reference is as long as you have their name hyperlinked.
Rule #2: Keep an aggressive and in-the-know tone, even if your source is the crazy homeless guy peeing on himself on the bus. Blog post from 4:12 pm headlines the fact that Yahoo! has sold off it’s HotJobs unit to Monster.
Rule #3: Bloggers don’t need retractments. Those are reserved for wussy obsolete journalists. Keeping posting blogs, mixing rumors with news with gossip.. as long as there’s activity, there’s no need for accuracy.
Rule #4: The more dumbass comments you get for a post, the better your page views and the better your ad monetization strategy.
Congrats professional bloggers! Hey Jay Yarrow and Nicholas Carson - maybe you guys should talk to one another.. maybe?
