The Beautfiul Country
Bụi đời – n. dust of the earth aka Vietnamese - American, Ameriasian.
The Beautfiul Country – A haunting, subtle and evocative telling of one person's arduous journey to discover his background and ultimately, himself.
I liked it because: Vietnam's sceneries reminds me of the vitality and struggles of my roots, the refugee and sea chapters remind me of my family's journey, and New York and Houston remind me of my American life.
It struck a chord with me personally. And all that aside, the story provides a look into the lengths to which we all struggle to build a life that is beyond what we are given. Great cinematography, great acting (even by Bai Ling!), and a great ending.
We are all immigrants in this bittersweet comedy.
I'm out to order a copy for my parents.
Is this movie subtitled or in English? I will put this on my queue.

it's subtitled when Vietnamese and other Asian actors speak their own language. The rest of the movie is in English, even when the protagonist begins to speak English haltingly.
