Trifecta

It's been a tough week for the Bushies.

1. The 2,000 mark for death toll in Iraq was crossed this week.  While some may gloat, this is a sad sad unecessary number. Iraq had nothing to do with our national security, nothing to do with 9/11 and everything to do with the increasing antagonism against the US foreign policy around the world, the rise of insurgencies in the region and the rabbit hole in which we are finding ourselves.

Why are we in two wars without some sort of draft?  Oh yeah, because we can always call on the underpriveleged to serve -- you know, give them discipline and some education allowance in exchange for servitude and the chance to blow their brains out.  Funny, I never see the armed forces recruiting in the gated enclaves of the blue-bloods.  No, patriotism is found in the barrios, the ghettos and the Chinatowns of America. Of course, actually doing something about the state of education in this country would take a monumental effort that is perhaps greater than the energy expended to create  the web of misinformation and lies that led to our shock & indifference campaign.

2. Harriet Miers withdrew her candidacy for a Supreme Court seat to 'preserve the Executive Branch's privelege'.  Psssh. The far right is livid that the White House tried to squeeze a candidate passed them who is not baptised by the righteous waters of the the extreme social conservative movement.  Seems like Bush is in a tough spot.  Either he gives the vultures what they want by nominating a truly conservative candidate and face filibuster from the Democrats and further divide the country, or he can alienate his core base further by pushing through a moderate candidate.  Either way, it's like being in a gang initiation: half ass the job and your 'buddies' will kick your teeth in or succeed and pay for the crime down the road ('08). Poor Bush, his support base just sucker punched him.

3. The indictment for Libby is not the end.  In the resulting days we'll cut through more of the deceptions and lies that this Administration has spun.  But this we know. Valerie Plame in her role helped track WMDs and the Middle East which is at the center of the threat to our security.  She is also part of a business front called Brewster Jennings who had energy operations in Saudia Arabia.  Brewster Jennings allowed covert CIA agents and others to establish contact in Arabia, home to Osama, 9/11 operatives, extreme fundamentalist Islam, etc.  By blowing Plame's cover, the iterative contacts in that region were severed, and the consequences to our intelligence gathering and security remains to be seen.  Why Libby allegedly commited perjury and obstruction of justice remains to be seen.  Was he stupid, a cover or something else?

In light of everything, Bush gave this statement: While we're all saddened by today's news, we remain wholly focused on the many issues facing this country. I've got a job to do and so do the people who work in the White House..

Yeah ok - there are many issues facing this country that have been, in part, bungled by this White House.  So the president continues to take photo-ops with victims of a hurricane that exposed the nepotism and ineffectiveness of the White House; he'll also to continue to stage appearances with the troops that he sent in to a hotbed of civil war without preparation, reason or honesty.

Yes, he'll pull out his gamebook and pretend that this is a trivial issue and will pretend to be busy.  But as the truth comes out, this administration will be caught with its pants down.

Awesome job Bushies. Y'all hit a trifecta this week.

i'll vote for you in tne next election
