Being lazy is not doing something you don't really want to do. Procrastination is not doing something you actually want to do.

I think I'm lazy.  It started as jetlag but has now evolved to full-blown laziness.  I sleep at 5 am and wake up at noon.  By that time, most of the cool stuff I want to do (bike to the beach, walk around town, update my social security and driver license) has expired.

In any case, I think living in the basement has really gone to my head.  There is no light and so it is pitch black when I "wake up". Which means I really don't want to wake up because in addition to it being pitch black, it is also very cold.  Victorian house that's 100 years old = poor furnace system.  Cold and black appeal to my primeval nature of burrowing under my blankets. It's a biological imperative to sleep and be warm.

Well, I tried going to bed yesterday at 4 am instead of 5 am and as my eyes shuttered, I had two thoughts:

Thought 1: "It's colder today than normal. It's going to be harder to wake up, then. I should probably set my alarm."
Thought 2: "Must be nice, waking up so late with the blankets all around."

I noticed it right away. Thought 2 followed thought 1 like... like how wetness follows water; and thought 2 had responded to thought 1!  It was the first time where I am conscious that my brain not only has compartmentalized itself into two distinct identities, but that one part of my brain in fact has responded sarcastically to another part of my brain.

Zounds!

This opens up all sorts of weird doors. Black unknown doors.  So now I know I have at least two personalities: one is lazy and fond of sleep;  the other, sarcastic and cloyingly responsible.

How many other personalities are there? I'll be on the look out.
