Woa-Man Watch Yourself

Each day, I talk to women in marketing.  I grit my teeth before every call because I know how the call will be.

Each day, I talk to women in marketing.  I grit my teeth before every call because I know how the call will be.  It's as if the entire world decided to filter all the crappastic stereotypical aspects of the female animal into the insular world of marketing.  Women dominate the marketing field, and apart from a few individuals, the field is overrun by bitchy, whiny, vindictive and stupid women.  Really.  These are women who cannot think for themselves because they are too busy trying to fend off aggressive men from the real departments – you know, the areas of the firm that actually drives revenue.  They are witless and helpless to get any work done because they are bullied and sullied and pressured by the managing directors, the partners and the executives at their respective ibanks, law firms and accounting outfits.  They have been reduced from liberal arts graduates of decent schools to Chicken Littles, moaning that the sky is falling on their puny worlds, that all is lost because they can't get a report to a partner fast enough.

They've evolved from young stylish girls with expectations of rich husbands and "cosmo nights with the girls" to slightly overweight thirtysomethings still striving to please the Man (or the Woman who has achieved the trappings of the Man) – running in circles to fix a typo or finish their marketing reports so that the Man can continue shit on them with increased funds and nice sounding work.  They deal in the minute process without looking at the larger goals. Ever.  They pop their heads out of sterile cubicles and talk about "just doing it" and "getting it done" and "achievement levels" because they're scared shitless of the partners and executives.  Just get it done, and don't think about if it's correct or not, because who can dare talk back against a partner?

I feel bad talking to these women, because they're so frazzled and at their wits ends and they can't do anything about it.  They're stuck in a life they've created, wanting to be strong independent women and yet, they're still living in a guy's world - at his beck and call.  So many presentations and conference calls, round and round and when to step off?
