Friday meal
Today I went to pick out a river fish, with Auntie. On the menu: fried fish, fish head & dill soup, and fresh garden salad.
Today I went to pick out a river fish, with Auntie. On the menu: fried fish, fish head & dill soup, and fresh garden salad. Since it was Lent, Yuppienomad requested that dinner be seafood as opposed to meat.
— Flopflopflop, went the fish, squirming out of the water basin and onto the cement.
--- Catch it catch it catch it – yelled Auntie.
--- I got it I got it – said the vendor.
--- Svaaaft! Svaaaaft! Off goes the fins!
---Shhzzzing! The knife flashes for a split second.
--- Thwapt thwapt… thwapt thawpt thawpt. The fish is struggling bravely; what a ridiculous effort.
--- Plop! Out comes the throbbing gill, red and meaty. Plop! Out comes the other one!
--- Thwapt thwapt. The fish wriggles and chokes on the thin air. Flop flop.
--- Svaat! Svaat! Svaat! Off goes the tail! The body breaks in two. Thunk! The head rolls to the side, eyes milky and vacant.
The poor creature still twitched after the fisherwoman quartered and shoveled it into the plastic bag for us. Fish has some fight. It did everything but groan.
--- Fresh -- said Auntie. Good Meal.
— Fresh! – agreed the fisherwoman. Come again!
