Lordy! After more than a year without my music (bunk hard drive, toasted Ipod)... I have now reclaimed my precious. Oh yeah!  It was simple – magnificently ridiculously simple, but it shows that all it takes is a good set of instructions to make the world well.  If you have an Ipod that's funtoosh, check out this post from CrunchGear... seriously.. for all the intricate technology from Apple, all it takes is a business card to make the darned thing work? I'm just happy that I didn't toss the darn thing or sent it in for a discounted refund..

So anyways - I was on the shuttle to work this morning, listening to the Arcade Fire and there was this wave of nostalgia (ok – that's a really lame figure of speech).. let's say that I felt the strongest wanderlust in months because I remembered listening to the same playlist on the road.

But instead of being sad – nostalgia often induced that.. it was more bittersweet, a more layered sentiment that recognizes where I am now (focused on career, settling into a city), realizing that my decisions have been good ones (for me), but still acknowledging this other side of me, the one that faced the road and will confront it again someday... and the whole recognition thing was, while not exactly happy, was definitely not sad.

I suppose that as adults, the same feelings we had as kids (loneliness, sadness, want) is a bit more complex because of our collective experiences.  The same kinds of feelings can engender very different emotions.

But yeah – wohoo! My music is back! And with it comes clearer memories of all the things I did in 2006.  That was a dammed good year...

Awwww, you are spot on, as usual! I have felt the same thing when listening to my music, it's like man, that was fun, so many memories, so many stories, the people, oh always the people. And how you can meet someone who is just so cool, and how you bond over a couple days and each one goes their own way home, back to their own "reality" But I am always left wondering: Imagine all the random events, choices, etc. that made me and that person end up in X place at X time, and how maybe in some way there is a destiny and you were meant to meet because that 4 day friendship really meant a lot. And maybe you see them on facebook again or exchange an email here and there, but it's not the same. But then you visit their city or they vist yours and suddenly it's all back, the common ground, the shared experience. But yea, bittersweet, to remember all that was versus where we are now. Reminds me of the end of Auberge Espagnol when he says he is no longer the person he was, but he is all the places he went to, and all the people he met, while still being himself.
