Street Food
Since I'm still technically living out of a backpack, I really haven't settled down yet. When I was on the road, I kept saying that I'll cook more when I have a place of my own .. since that schedule as been pushed back a little bit, I find myself replicating a habit I had on the road: eating from food vendors on the street.
Except New York doesn't have grilled fish or fresh fruit juice or noodles.. but I find that I'm doing ok with sausages, gyros and kebabs (yep, they're everywhere), hot soups, and assorted peanuts. Doesn't break the bank, and I find that they're one of the few places in the States that actually gives you a reasonable portion (i.e. not the gut busting extra super large portions that restaurants pile on).
I've gotten so used to eating bite-sized snacks regularly throughout the day... and if not, then smaller meals that this land of plenty is a little overwhelming. I mean, c'mon.. one entree here can feed three people elsewhere! I wish restaurants would charge less and serve up smaller portions.
What's your favorite street food?

Halal stand (aka Afghani Man) on 53rd and 6th, I think. But even better was the xoi ga wrapped in la chuoi (sticky rice with chicken in banana leaf) on the dirty streets of Saigon. Damn...haven't had me one in 10 years, but I STILL dream about them.
